Motivation comes in all forms. Running is one of my favorite pasttimes but when it comes to goal setting and distance, motivation is necessary.
Welcome the recreation vacation. Registering for a half marathon or 10k is on my list this year as motivation for upping the mileage as the weather warms. I’ve completed the Leavenworth Half Marathon twice and had a lot of fun at the first annual Seawheeze half marathon in Vancouver BC. Here are a few worth considering for 2017:
Whidbey Island Marathon, April 23, 2017. This scenic race provides an option for everyone and a chance to wine dine and enjoy an island weekend getaway afterward. Providing picturesque ocean views and tranquil farmland, the full marathon and half marathon courses, along with the 10k and 5k, promise to be scenic from country back roads to waterfront coastlines, snow-capped mountains and rolling hills. www.whidbeyislandmarathon.com.
Capital City Marathon, May 21, 2017. It’s not too late to lace up the Nikes for a trek through the Capital City. This Boston Marathon qualifier offers a scenic northwest course with rolling hills, a loyal following of marathon veterans, newcomers and everyone in between. Once complete, indulge in downtown Olympia’s burgeoning culinary and craft beverage scene or check into a local hotel complete with jetted tub to soothe sore muscles. www.capitalcitymarathon.org.
Oregon Wine Country Half Marathon, September 3, 2017. Any race that starts at a winery wins in my book. The Oregon Wine Country Half Marathon is held in the heart of the Willamette Valley, less then an hour drive from downtown Portland. The course begins at Stoller Family Estate and ends in downtown Carlton. Book early for this one as lodging fills up. http://www.destinationraces.com/runoregon
